MUMBAI, JANUARY 8: Crowd-pullers Mohun Bagan of Kolkata have a slight edge over Goa’s League champions Zee Churchill Brothers, when the two meet in the final of the 100th Bristol Rovers Cup Football Championship at the Cooperage ground, on Tuesday at 4.15 p.m. The clash promises exciting fare.

Bagan have wrested the Rovers Trophy on 13 occasions and have finished second-best ten times. Churchill are rookies in comparison and have entered the final only twice before. They finished runners-up to Jagatjit Textiles and Cotton Mills (JCT) in the 1997 final and also came a cropper against State-mates Salgaocar in last year’s summit clash.

Bagan did not display the individual brilliance of their previous teams but caught the eye with a splendid display against East Bengal in Sunday’s semi-final contest. They, however, will miss injured Brazilian Dos Santos in attack.

But Churchill will be no pushovers as they have the speed and flair, especially in their counter-attacks, to dislodge their more illustrious opponents. They also have a sound defence, which however, is prone to holding the ball for far too long in the box.

Churchill’s have their own striker in the form of Francis Silveira, the two-goal hero of the triumph against Iran Youth Team in the semis. Striker Igor Shkvrin is also in good nick, but should work a little bit more to retrieve the ball.

Likely Teams: Mohun Bagan: Bivash Ghosh; Amitava Chandra, Amauri, Hussain Mustafi and Lolendro Singh; Dulal Biswas, Debjit Ghosh and RP Singh; Amar Ganguly, Jose Barretto and Naushad Pari.

Zee Churchill Brothers: Edward Ansah; Rajesh Meetie, Jaspreet Singh, Inacio Afonso and Farooq Haider; Somatai Shaiza, Jose Colaco and Edson Tadeu; Ajay Kumar, Francis Silveira and Igor Shkvrim.
