Bonito, along with friends Farhan, Prasad Diwadkar (wrongly identified as Prasad Dandekar earlier) and Shaan Uttamsingh, was arrested in Dubai for alleged possession and consumption of drugs. The four were picked up during a raid at the Imperial Suites Hotel.

‘‘My son had called me several times saying that he was innocent and a victim of bad company,’’ said Abu Asim Azmi, Farhan’s father. ‘‘A few doctors said that even if you sit next to a drugs user, your blood sample may test positive.’’

Speaking about events preceding their arrest, Bonito said that he and his friends had taken an apartment at the Imperial Suites on October 23. ‘‘Around mid-morning the next day, the Dubai Police conducted a raid. We were all searched and questioned,’’ he said. The police conducted a urine test. ‘‘That was found negative and I was told I would be free,’’ he said.(With Ahmed Ali)
