August 8: For the fourth time in two years, there was a bomb hoax at the Maker Chambers IV building at Nariman Point. Girish Methiya, the manager of the building received a call at 3.20 pm alleging that Chhota Shakeel had placed a bomb in the building. The caller spoke to him in Hindi, "Aap ke building me bomb hein". (There is a bomb in your building. The caller claimed to have overheard a conversation between two people to this effect.

Methiya informed the Cuffe Parade police station immediately and a dog squad was summoned. The building vacated, hundreds of employees stood outside undecided on whether to leave. The occupants of the building as well as the police were convinced that the call was a hoax possibly made by an employee who wanted to go home early!

The 14 storey building houses the British, Swiss and Oman consulates apart from other offices. According to Mathija, over 6000 people including visitors are present in the building at a time. The duty officer at the Cuffe Parade police station stated that the call would be traced. In the past few years, bomb hoaxes have happened at Mittal Court, Mittal Chambers and Nirmal building among others. According to the officer, the threats increase on sensitive days like December 6.
