UK-based Body Shop International is in talks to open its first stores in India.

The company posted a 7 per cent rise in first-half sales, buoyed by exotic new beauty product lines with ingredients such as Brazilian nuts and Zambian honey, boosting its shares on Thursday.

The company said full year growth is on track as the ethical beauty products retailer reported a drop in interim profits, as expected, after buying stores from franchisees pushed more profit to the back end of its financial year. Body Shop recently bought previously franchised operations in Canada, Hong Kong and Benelux, moving sales from a wholesale to retail basis and increasing the seasonality of the business.

In 2003, Body Shop initiated a £100 million revamp, investing in new stores, store refurbishments and information systems.
