Boat capsizes in Bihar, kills 5, drowns 25

Five people were killed and 20 others feared drowned after an overcrowded boat capsized in Kosi river.

Five people were killed and 20 others feared drowned on Wednesday after an overcrowded boat capsized in the swollen Kosi river near Kanpghat village in Bihar’s Purnia district.

Dhamdaha Sub-divisional Officer of R R Jha told PTI that the mishap took place when the overcrowded boat was caught in an whirlpool in the river and overturned.

He said five bodies have been fished out and 10 people swam to safety.

Rescue operation was continuing, Jha added.
