FAIZABAD (UP), AUGUST 14: At least eight people were killed and more than 60 injured as a powerful blast ripped through Sabarmati Express, which was going from Muzaffarpur to Ahmedabad, near here tonight, police said. The injured have been admitted to hospital where 14 are said to be in a serious condition.

The blast occurred in the last compartment around 10.30 PM near Roza Gaon, about 50 km from here on the Faizabad-Lucknow section of Northern Railway, police said. Senior railway and civil officials have rushed to the site. A relief train has also been sent. Railway Protection Force sources said the ISI is very active in this area.

This came close on the heels of two powerful blasts in Kanpur around 9.30 PM in which at least eight people, including four policemen and a lady corporator, were seriously injured.

A bomb went off near corporator Kusum Gupta’s residence at Aryanagar around 9.30 PM. When the police reached spot after 20 minutes, another bomb exploded, injuring the corporator, her brother-in-law and four police personnel.

DIG (Kanpur Range) Dilip Trivedi said both bombs were set off with timer devices but ruled out involvement of militants. He said the explosions were of “low nature”.
