The Opposition AGP today hit out at the Congress government in the state headed by Tarun Gogoi over the twin blasts that the ULFA carried out inside the official Republic Day parade ground in Guwahati yesterday and demanded dismissal of the government for its failure to ensure security to the people.
‘‘That the militants could carry out as many as two explosions inside the parade ground in Guwahati is enough to prove how bad the law and order situation has become in Assam,’’ AGP president Brindaban Goswami said here today.
He said that when the militants could explode bombs inside a high-security area where top dignitaries, including the state Governor and CM were present, it was enough to gauge how secure the lives of the common people were.
‘‘The state has been witnessing a series of explosions in the past two weeks, and the state government has remained a helpless spectator,’’ the Opposition leader claimed. ‘‘The situation is enough to demand dismissal of the Congress government in the state,’’ Goswami added.
The state BJP, too, has expressed concern over the way the government was handling the law and order situation. ‘‘The situation has been deteriorating day by day and the Chief Minister continues to claim that things have improved. This is ridiculous,’’ state BJP secretary V. Satish said.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, however, reiterated today that the situation was ‘‘under control’’.
