NEW DELHI, Sept 12: Coalition partners of the BJP-led government today demanded their pound of flesh in the forthcoming expansion of the Union Council of Ministers.
Biju Janata Dal leader Vijay Mahapatra said more ministers should be inducted from his party to give adequate representation to Orissa. Similarly, Akali Dal leader and Union Minister Surjeet Singh Barnala said since his party had nine members in the Lok Sabha, it should be adequately represented in the government.
Meanwhile, the ruling Akali-BJP combine in Punjab today announced its decision to set up “coordination committees” at both the state and district level fors smooth functioning.
Stating this at a press conference after a two-day meeting of the BJP state executive, party state president Daya Singh Sodhi said the decision was taken after “free and frank” voicing of the grievances by the BJP leaders before CM Parkash Singh Badal, who addressed the meeting’s concluding session. Sodhi claimed that the Akali Dal leader gave a“patient hearing to our political and administrative grievances.”
