After a two-day wait to get an FIR registered against Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and Congress leader Balkrishan Aggarwal, the man who allegedly paid Rs 2.5 lakh to BJP Zilla Parishad Chief Prembai Mandavi to secure her defection to the Congress, the BJP today declared that it would now fight its battle on other legal forums.
The Jogi government faces a no-confidence motion tomorrow and the latest developments have given the BJP an added advantage.
‘‘We will knock on the doors of the Election Commission, National Commission for SCs and STs and National Commission for Women to seek justice,’’ says Nand Kumar Sai, the BJP legislature party leader.
Mandavi, who heads Rajnandgaon Zilla Parishad, alleges that Aggarwal, a Jogi confidant, tried to lure him to join the Congress when she was in Raipur for three days. She says she was paid Rs 2.5 lakh and was forced to sign papers. ‘‘Aggarwal told me it was the Chief Minister’s desire (that I join the Congress) and my refusal to do so would be met with serious consequences.”
Mandavi met Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahay yesterday and sought protection saying her life was in danger. She left for Delhi today to meet Central BJP leaders.
‘‘She is equally worried about the safety of her son — a police recruit, who is currently getting trained at Mana in Raipur,’’ Sai said.
