BJP wants Maya to heed its men

The party’s probable choice for chairman of the proposed committee may be Kalraj Mishra but Mayawati can be trusted to shoot down the suggestion for it will lead to the emergence of two centres of power. She has deliberately avoided setting up of a coordination committee because it would require her to route all major decisions through it.

Those scheduled to attend tomorrow’s meet at Advani’s house include HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, state BJP in-charge Kalraj Mishra, state president Vinay Katiyar and Lalji Tandon. General secretary Rajnath Singh, scheduled to go out of town, will not attend.

The meeting at Naidu’s residence this evening was chaired by Advani. Before the meeting, Naidu talked to four junior ministers from UP — Ashok Pradhan, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Sangh Priya Gautam and Chhatrapal Singh.

‘‘We reviewed the entire political situation in UP. They gave their assessment and made suggestions that we would consider at tomorrow’s meeting with the CM,’’ Naidu said.

Sources said Rajnath Singh has complained that Mayawati has unleashed a caste war in the state. He was critical of the use of POTA, particularly against Uday Pratap Singh, the 80-year-old father of Raja Bhaiyya. Katiyar said Mayawati should not rush to Delhi at every instance and the high command should tell her to deal with state BJP leaders.
