The BJP here today said that Bihar presents a ‘‘classic case of slow and deliberate killing of the innocent people’’ in the wake of non-payment of salaries to 50,000 government employees for the last 10 years.

Party spokesman Sunil Shastri said the Congress-supported Laloo-Rabri combine, which swears by social justice and preaches ‘‘rajdharma’’ to others, is responsible for this state of affairs. The Congress is more culpable for this situation than the RJD because it is the support of the Congress, which sustains the state government.

Shastri said the victims of this callousness include school and college teachers, typists, clerks, sweepers and accountants. ‘‘Economic hardships have also forced people to commit suicides. The RJD-Congress combine has no conscience left to feel the difficulties of the sufferers,’’ he said.

Governance has been obviously given a go-by, while the principle of accountability, fundamental to democracy, is being flaunted to the hilt by the Laloo-Rabri combine, Shastri said. ‘‘The Congress,’’ he added with sarcasm, ‘‘would not notice all this, because it excels in the practice of political hypocrisy’’.
