Welcome to the new-age shakha. The RSS ‘pracharaks’ on deputation to the BJP — long-perceived as the self-sacrificing, simple, dedicated folk — are currently undergoing lessons on personality-development and management techniques.
The ruling party has herded the 150-odd whole-timers holding district-level to national-level positions to a farmhouse, Kundan Vatika, at Kapashera village near here, for a four-day intensive training and orientation programme, which got underway this afternoon.
The course has been visualised, designed and organised by BJP vice-president Bal Apte, MP, who is in charge of training programmes. He is assisted by general secretary (organisation) Sanjay Joshi and training co-ordinator Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.
Shyam Jaju, a party spokesman, said: ‘‘The workshop has been planned to help all organising secretaries share their experiences, tally notes and sharpen their organisational skills while knowing more about modern management techniques.’’
He disclosed that ‘‘two management experts’’, Harish Shetty and Aruna Kaulgod, had been drafted from Mumbai to train the pracharaks. Also, there are yoga and meditation experts from Vivekananda Kendra of Bangalore to tone up their bodies and minds in mornings and evenings.
The high command would not, however, risk handing over its key functionaires completely to management and yoga experts.
Therefore, senior leaders would, in between, subject them to their own lectures as well.
Those slated to address them during the next three days include Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, RSS general secretary Mohan Rao Bhagwat, BJP president M Venakaiah Naidu and RSS joint general secretary Madan Dass Devi.
