MUMBAI, JULY 31: Leaders of Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday reached a consensus on exchange of one Lok Sabha and eight Assembly seats for the forthcoming general elections.

The decision was taken in the Sena-BJP’s coordination committee meeting here, attended by Chief Minister Narayan Rane, former CM Manohar Joshi, Sena leaders Raj and Uddhav Thackery, Subhash Desai and Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde.

“We have arrived at an agreement on exchange of one Parliamentary seat and eight Assembly seats. However, the final decision will be taken after consultation with Sena chief Bal Thackeray and Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar said.

He added that Kopargaon will now be given to Sena in exchange of Ahmednagar South Lok Sabha constituency. The meeting also discussed at length, the campaign strategy and joint manifesto of the alliance for elections.

Joint campaign will be launched in second week of August, Jawadekar said.
