The BJP on Saturday threatened to launch a massive agitation if the Uttar Pradesh Government allowed Britons, including soldiers of the original British Garrison, to celebrate “their victory in the Sepoy Mutiny” of 1857.

A group of Britons, who observed Victory Day in Meerut and New Delhi, arrived in Agra on Saturday to celebrate their victory in the 1857 revolt. Many BJP activists reached the Agra Fort with black flags and shouted slogans against the Britons, but they were arrested and sent to the Raqabganj police station.

“The Government must ban their entry into the state capital on Monday or else the BJP will take its protest to the streets,” said senior party leader Lalji Tandon. “How can the Centre allow these Britons to hold functions on our soil,” he said.
