CHANDIGARH, Nov 3: Stressing that the BJP government was not in favour of demolitions, local MP Satya Pal Jain has appealed to people to discourage unauthorised construction and said he would ask UT officials to chalk out a clear-cut policy on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Action Committee for Development of Villages has announced that it will block traffic on the Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway 21 on November 15 to protest the demolitions.Jain, who addressed villagers sitting on dharna for the past five days near Daria village, later visited the site of demolitions at Raipur Kalan village. Jain also flayed political parties which, he alleged, were trying to politicise the issue.

The Block Congress Committee today criticised the working of the BJP government. "By participating in the protest against the demolitions, Mayor Gian Chand Gupta and BJP president Dharam Pal Gupta have shown the party has no control over the working and programmes of the Corporation and the Administration," said Committee vice-president (Rural) Surinder Singh, adding, "the two must immediately quit their respective offices".
