AURANGABAD, JAN 30: In a forceful attempt to bring issues concerning Marathwada to the centre stage, the executive body of the BJP, which met here on Saturday, chalked out a thirteen point charter of demands including setting new rail lines, supplying adequate power and removal of backlogs in the region.

The party has given three months to the state government to spell out its stand on the issues. Union minister of State for Railways, Ram Naik would co-ordinate with the Union Government while the Deputy Chief Minister, Gopinath Munde, will pursue the issues with the state government on behalf of the party.

One of the most crucial issue was the demand for setting up a new committee to identify the actual backlog in seven districts of Marathwada. Senior party functionary Prakash Jawadekar could there was need for such a committee when the governor had already set up one under Bhujangrao Kulkarni.

Currently the backlog in Marathwada is fixed on the basis of the highly controversial report prepared by theDandekar Committee, which shows Marathwada to be ahead of Western Maharashtra in a number of aspects.Curiously, most of the thirteen demands raised are related to portfolios held by BJP ministers. Jawadekar spoke on the State power situation , which he claimed had improved under the Sena-BJP govt, but refused to reveal his party’s latest stand on Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s demand to give free electricity to farmers.

“Since we will be taking up political issues on Sunday, the matter has not yet been discussed,” he said, but refused to say whether the issue was a political one.
