Security has been beefed up at BJP headquarters following information that the party office and three of its leaders were prime targets of militants. The news was revealed during interrogation of some arrested Jaish members.

While BJP functionaries were not forthcoming on the issue, sources disclosed that Noor Mohammed Tantray, who was caught in Bulandshahr, had surveyed the office several times. Leaders on the hit-list were BJP chief M. Venkaiah Naidu and general secretaries Pramod Mahajan and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Tantray, identifiable due to his short stature, had been spotted many times at the party office. The last time he was spotted at the BJP office was on August 23, when Arunachal CM Gegong Apang joined the party. Tantray frequented the office on the pretext of meeting leaders of the minority cell. Officials of the IB and Delhi Police met Naidu, Mahajan and Naqvi to review security. Consequently, police have started screening visitors.
