NEW DELHI, Jan 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is no longer the AK Hangal of politics, party president LK Advani has said. ``Nine years ago, someone had said the BJP's role would be like AK Hangal's in Hindi films: Good roles but not central to the film. That is not true any longer. Now we are seen either as khalnayaks (villains) or mahanayaks(superheroes),'' he said.Advani is unquestionably the man behind the BJP's star status in the elections and his two-day whirlwind campaign in Rajasthan revealed the party's reworked strategy to counter the Sonia factor, pave the way for a coalition Government and keep its traditional vote bank intact while not alienating Muslims.Flying in a light aircraft, Advani addressed six public meetings in Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Sikar, Churu and Bikaner in two days. The colour saffron is conspicuous by its absence this time - no longer do leaders sport saffron scarves - and chants of `Jai Shri Ram' are heard only occasionally. The BJP hasalready established its credentials in this sphere. And Sonia and the prospect of a coalition appear to have dictated the party's election agenda.
