CHANDIGARH, April 26: Newly-elected president of the Himachal Pradesh unit of BJP Suresh Chandel said that the party’s electoral tie-up in the state with Sukh Ram’s Himachal Vikas Congress would continue for its full five-year period.
Addressing a press conference here today, Chandel said the tie-up would be reviewed only after five years, depending on the prevailing political situation in the state then.
Chandel claimed that the BJP-HVC combine would win all the remaining four Vidhan Sabha and the Mandi Lok Sabha seats in the state, in elections on June 3. He added that state PWD Minister and HVC president Sukh Ram has already declared to retire in favour of BJP candidate Maheshwar Singh from the Mandi Parliamentary constituency. Regarding any action against Sukh Ram in case he was charged by the courts in the Telecom scam, he said a decision would be taken when such a situation arose.
While launching the joint election campaign in the polls, as per the agreement between the coalition partners, while the HVC nominee would contest the Lahaul-Spiti seat and the BJP nominees Chetram Negi (Kinnaur), Nirmala Devi, wife of deceased BJP candidate Virender Singh (Paragpur) and Tulsi Ram (Bharmaur).
Chandel also said that the government was determined to accelerate the pace of development in the state and implement election promises in a phased manner. He claimed that his unanimous election as party president reflected that there was no difference at top level in the party.
