Though the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has rejected the proposal for an alliance in the Assembly elections in the state, the BJP is still hopeful of an arrangement between the two parties. SDF, an NDA ally at the Centre, turned down the BJP’s proposal a day after BJP vice-president Pyarelal Khandelwal and party-incharge for the state Sunil Shastri made the proposal to the Chief Minister and SDF president Pawan Chamling here early last week. The BJP duo had later told reporters here that the two parties had agreed in principle to go together to the coming Assembly polls in the state. A day later, the SDF, though reaffirming its support to the Centre, decided to go it alone in the Assembly polls to be held with the LS polls on May 10. But the BJP which is yet to open its account in the state is still optimistic about some kind of arrangement with the SDF and has decided to wait for the SDF to come around. — (PTI)
