Bharatiya Janashakti Party chief Uma Bharti said that Rajasthan Chief Minister’s rejection of Gujjars demand on granting them Scheduled Tribe status was the biggest mistake in history.
Before departing for Neemuch, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said that BJP leaders gave false promises to the Gujjars before the previous assembly polls with regard to granting them reservation, but after coming to power the party forgot its promises.
She said common people easily accepts political parties declarations and promises, but ‘BJP after gaining Gujjar votes later ditched them’.
Bharati claimed that late Pramod Mahajan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and a Delhi tent merchant were involved in this conspiracy. They made false promises to Gujjar community members on reservation but forgot after voted to power.
She said that BJP’s rejection to Gujjars on reservation issue exposes its ‘double character’ and said that people would now rethink about promises and declarations made to them before elections.
Earlier, Bharati, who was heading to Rajasthan to meet the Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla and condole the death of those killed in the agitation, began the sit-in on Thursday in a temple near Rajghat bridge over Chambal river after the Rajasthan police stopped her from entering Bayana town at the border.
