The BJP never mobilised opinion in favour of constructing a Ram temple in Ayodhya, senior leader Kalyan Singh today told the Liberhan Commission probing the demolition of the disputed structure.Asked by the Commission whether the rath yatra taken out by BJP president L.K. Advani had any connection with canvassing support for a Ram temple, Singh said: ‘‘As a political party, there was no efforts for mobilisation but there was no restriction on individuals taking out or joining yatras.’’Reminded about the BJP’s 1989 Palampur resolution on Ayodhya, he said the party was only giving ‘‘moral support’’ to the Ram temple movement.Singh, who was UP CM when the disputed structure was demolished on December 6, 1992, said his efforts to find an amicable solution to the Ayodhya dispute through dialogue with the Muslim community were thwarted by ‘‘pseudo-secular’’ and ‘‘fundamentalist elements’’.‘‘Muslims in Ayodhya and Faizabad were willing to hand over the disputed land to Hindus for the construction of a grand Ram temple. However, some pseudo-secularists and fundamentalist elements did not allow the dialogue to proceed,’’ he told the Commission.
