Actor Bipasha Basu has alleged she was “harassed and assaulted” on Sunday afternoon by two men who picked her up in a car from a Manhattan hotel to attend an Independence Day parade in New Jersey.

Hundreds of Indians and Indian Americans who had gathered at Oak Tree Road in Iselin, where she was to lead the parade, were literally silenced when she suddenly jumped onto the stage and snatched the mike from the announcer. “I have a very important thing to share with you today… what happened with me this afternoon,” Basu said.

‘‘I was picked up from the hotel at 12:30 pm for the parade by these two men (she did not reveal their names). I wanted to march along with others but was not allowed to come out (of the car). I was harassed. I was assaulted all throughout,” she said.

She walked off the stage after adding: “Is this the way you Indian Americans treat your guests? Is this the freedom we all fight for…Is this how you treat women?’’
