Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today announced that the government is coming up with a legislation to stop sale of fake seeds to farmers.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the National Cotton Mela hosted by the Central Institute for Cotton Research here, Pawar said the bill was ready and the government would try to get it passed in the next session of Parliament.

Pawar said several states have complained about sale of fake seeds to farmers by some private companies. He added there were complaints that some companies also sold fake seeds of BT cotton in some states.

Pawar said the price of the BT cotton seeds would come down by 75 per cent once scientists at Central Institute of Science Research developed indigenous varieties.
