JALANDHAR, July 21: A Bill in the Parliament would be brought probihiting the use of words or language in television serials or dramas which might hurt the sentiments of any community.

This was disclosed by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal while presiding over a function organised by Guru Valmik Sabha International, Punjab here today.

Badal said he was assured by the Centre government regarding the proposed legislation. He said that an unfortunate incident had occurred in the state because of a word used in a Doordarshan serial which had hurt the feelings of the people, especially the Valmik community.

The Chief Minister, P.S. Badal said it had been decided that a member from the Valmik community would be included in the censor board which would be constituted shortly.

The Chief Minister regretted that during the 50 years of Independence, previous governments had done nothing for the uplift of the dalits.

Stressing the need for vocationalisation of education, the Chief Minister said this was needed to make the young generation self dependent.

Badal said that the uplift of the scheduled castes and backward classes was to be given highest priority. Others who spoke on occasion included Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha and ministers Sarup Singh and Manoranjan Kalia.
