In a joint attack on a police station, heavily armed activists of the banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and People’s War (PW) burnt alive the officer-in-charge and shot dead two policemen besides injuring eight others, official sources said today.

The MCC and PW ultras attacked the police station at Paraiya, 16 km from here, late last night in a bid to loot the police armoury, and after an encounter lasting over three-and-half hours locked the officer-in-charge Suresh Paswan in a room and torched the station building.

While Paswan died in the fire, two policemen — ASI Sitaram Singh and Constable Arjun — died of bullet injuries. Police said at the site that the officer-in-charge and the policemen fought with the ultras for over three hours and they were overpowered only when they fell short of

ammunition.
