Bihar is still to recover from a strike by doctors protesting the murder of a colleague but kidnappers and extortionists continue their free run, striking again today to abduct two senior officials of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).Chief engineer K K Singh and general manager P Mandal were abducted by armed men who intercepted their car near Hajipur while they were on their way to Bettiah for a meeting with the DM and SP of West Champaran.Singh, Mandal and the driver were reportedly forced into another vehicle. The driver was later thrown out of the moving vehicle, said Vaishali DM H R Srinivasa, adding that the police had not yet identified the gang.The NHPC, implementing rural road projects in the region, had recently taken up the issue of security for its men with the state government.
