The search for four granddaughters of Bihar Revenue Minister Ramai Ram has come to an end — the ‘‘kidnapped’’ girls were found at a Colaba hotel along with a 17-year-old man, one of the accused in the case. The police team came upon the girls, all minors, at Sea Lodge Hotel on Wednesday night, ending two weeks of drama after they went missing from Patna on February 21. Ujjala Rani (17), Sweta Rani (15), Khushboo (14) and Varuhi (13) had checked into two rooms with Sayyed Umar Amjad Ali.

The girls, however, told police they had run away after two of them were beaten by their parents. ‘‘The parents had also accused Amjad Ali of malafide interest but when we interrogated the girls, they told us they had come on their own; Amjad Ali had only helped them,’’ Singh said. The girls revealed that they had stolen Rs 7,000 to fund their escape to Kolkata and later, to Mumbai.

Singh has already informed former Bihar CM Laloo Prasad Yadav, who sent a police team to accompany the girls’ parents to Mumbai. They arrived on Thursday night and took custody of the girls.

Minister of State for Home Kripa Shankar Singh has asked DCP Himanshu Roy to probe how the minors were allowed to check into the hotel on their own.
