One full week after Satyendra Dubey’s murder and four days after The Sunday Express expose on how this IIT Kanpur whistleblower’s cover was blown by the government, the Bihar police have set up a Special Investigation Team to probe his killing. Magadh DIG N C Dhoundial told The Indian Express that the SIT would be headed by Gaya SP Sanjay Singh—Dubey was killed in Gaya—and would have two inspectors and four sub-inspectors. Meanwhile, DG of Bihar Police D P Ojha, who has angered RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav and the political establishment by speaking his mind, said today that the Dubey murder highlighted how ‘‘big development projects in the state have become a playground for criminals and mafia.’’ Said Ojha: ‘‘Dubey was known as an efficient and quality conscious officer and this must have annoyed the mafia.’’ncidentally, in a public speech last week, Ojha had named Mohammed Shahabuddin, MP of Siwan—where Dubey’s village is—the ‘‘mukhiya of kidnappers in Bihar.’’ The DGP then named Azad Gandhi and Surender Yadav, both influential RJD leaders, as ‘‘criminal-politicians.’’ Today, he said: ‘‘Naxalites, criminal-politicians and mafia are all interested in the state’s big project.’’ He said that until the investigation is complete, he could not comment on whether revealing Dubey’s identity contributed to his murder. Meanwhile, Dhoundial, calling the case ‘‘very complex,’’ said it was not yet clear if Dubey was murdered at the spot where his body was found or the body was brought there after murder. ‘‘The SP and I visited the site and now we need to do a lot of perusal of documents. We need to see who are the people who may have been adversely affected by Dubey’s uprightness and the letters he wrote to higher authorities. We will be sending teams to Delhi and Koderma,’’ the DIG said, adding that saying anything more might adversely affect the investigation.
