Now Bihar will no longer be known for its bumpy roads. The state government on Tuesday presented the budget for the year 2007-08 and allotted a whopping 30 per cent of the total budget for road development.

After presenting the budget, Deputy CM — who also holds the Finance portfolio — Sushil Kumar Modi said that the record allotment would be spent on construction of village roads, national highways and state highways. He said that a total of Rs 3,500 crore would be spent on construction and repair of roads in the state and this would be apart from the Central schemes in the sector.

“Roads are a reflection of a state’s development. We have already taken up construction and repair of roads on a large scale, and this will be accelerated further in 2007-08,” the minister said.
