In the seventh attack on trains in Bihar in less than a month, armed robbers tonight shot at three passengers of the Gaya-Patna Passenger near Gaya station.

Railway sources say eight robbers boarded a three-tier compartment of the 604-Dn Gaya-Patna Passenger soon after the train left Gaya station and went on a looting spree. They opened fire when some passengers resisted, critically injuring three persons, and fled after pulling the chain near Chakand station.

On June 25, gunmen had stabbed a passenger and looted cash and valuables worth over Rs 1.5 lakh from an AC coach of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail near Bhabhua Road station. On June 3, a passenger was shot dead by dacoits on Doon Express in Gaya. On June 9, two passengers were shot dead in an AC coach of the Howrah-Danapur Express near Patna.

A BSF inspector was shot dead on May 27 when he resisted robbers on Farakka Express at Raghunathpur. Four days later, passengers lynched dacoits when they tried to rob passengers of Patna-Palamu Express at Aurangabad.
