CHANDIGARH, MARCH 9: Haryana Veterans beat Delhi Veterans by 70 runs in the opening match of the Inter-State Veterans cricket tournament at the Nahar Singh Stadium in Faridabad yesterday.

Haryana were spurred by centuries by Rakesh Jolly and Deepak Sharma and rattled up an imposing 313 for 4 in 40 overs. Former Test player Yashpal Sharma too chipped in with 59.

In reply, Delhi Veterans succumbed in the face of some accurate bowling by left arm spinner Arun Sharma and former India seamer Chetan Sharma to be restricted to 243 for 8 in 40 overs.

Scores: Haryana Veterans: 313 for 4 (Rakesh Jolly 103, Deepak Sharma 113, Yashpal Sharma 59, R P Singh 29 n.o.; Vivek Razdan 3-59) beat Delhi Veterans: 243 for 8 (Sunil Khanna 69, Hari Gidwani 64 n.o., Gursharan Singh 53; Chetan Sharma 2-24, Arun Sharma 3-26).
