India’s Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi finally got their act together this season. Entering the Rome Masters without a title in 2004, the pair came out tops beating Wayne Arthurs and Paul Hanley 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
For Bhupathi and Mirnyu, who had entered five tournaments before Rome without tasting success, it was their seventh in seven months. The last title they won was the Madrid Masters last October.
Their one hour 37 minute ‘comeback’ win helped Bhupathi win his third title of the year — the other two coming in the Heineken Open and Dubai Open with Fabrice Santoro. Apart from playing with Mirnyi and Leander Paes in Davis Cup, Bhupathi has paired up with three partner — D Tursunov (Russia), Fabrice Santoro (France) and Paul Hanley (Australia). On his own Bhupathi has had an impressive record with a 26-7 ‘win loss’ record.
