Even after summons were served on January 3, former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal’s nephew Sameer failed to turn up at the office of the investigators probing the fake stamp paper scandal today.
Sameer had left for the US on December 5 as part of a delegation of the education trust controlled by Bhujbal. Police declined to comment as to when Sameer will be summoned again.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) grilled Bhujbal’s private secretary S.K. Bankar for well over seven hours today on his role in the postings and transfers of non-IPS officers.
Bankar, a revenue department official on deputation to Bhujbal and now with Deputy CM Vijaysinh Mohite Patil, arrived at the SIT’s Worli office in his official car. During the marathon grilling session, Bankar was specifically asked about the transfer of Inspector M.I. Zahid, who worked in the cyber cell, to Nagpur.
Zahid’s file was forwarded by Bankar to the then Director-General of Police S.C. Malhotra, who had also been questioned on December 11.
