Bharti takes ill on way to Thane, is advised rest

A chopper carrying Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti to Uttan in Thane district made an emergency landing at Akole village in Ahmednagar district this evening after the BJP leader developed chest pain, high blood pressure and vertigo.

Bharti was flying to the Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini located at Bhayander in Thane from Aurangabad when she was taken ill, Superintendent of Police, Thane, Ramrao Pawar said.

Around 7 pm, when the helicopter was flying over Ahmednagar district, Bharti complained of chest pain and uneasiness. The pilot landed at Navalewadi in Akole tehsil. She was then rushed to Nashik in a jeep. Around 10.10 pm, she was taken to Rajebahadur Hospital. The doctors, who accompanied her from Akole to Nashik, confirmed that she had complained of chest pain.

Dr Manoj Chopra, Dr Narayan Devgaonkar and Dr Jayant Soni, who examined her in the ICU of Rajebahadur Hospital, said Bharti was a patient of cervical spondylitis and, due to fatigue, she was feeling uneasy. They, however, added that she was completely out of danger and her blood pressure, which had shot up, was normal. She has been advised rest.
