CALCUTTA, JAN 2: Bengal were struggling at 60 for four in their first innings after bundling out Tripura for a paltry 135 on the opening day of their East Zone Ranji Trophy match at the Eden Gardens here today.

Young speedster Laxmi Ratan Shukla exploited the favourable conditions to the hilt to rip through the fragile Tripura batting line up while skipper Utpal Chatterjee polished off the tail after putting the visitors into bat.

But Bengal batsmen failed to supplement the good work done by their bowlers as opener Alokendu Lahiri (0), Nikhil Haldipur (17), Devang Gandhi (28) and Rohan Gavaskar (6) perished cheaply.
