A day after India described the Dalai Lama as “personification of non-violence”, China today slammed the spiritual leader, calling him the “mastermind” behind the Lhasa violence, and asked New Delhi not to be “misled by him”.

“The violence in Lhasa has shown the nature of his (Dalai Lama’s) intentions. He has used his so-called non-violence to cheat the international community. I hope our Indian friends see through the nature of his intention and not be misled by him,” Chinese ambassador to India Zhang Yan told reporters here.

Addressing the media after Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi met the Dalai Lama, he asked the world to keep out of China’s internal affairs.

“Tibet is China’s internal matter. We do not allow any country to meddle in our internal affairs,” he said.

Appreciating the stand taken by India, Zhang Yan said Beijing was in regular touch with New Delhi on the issue. “Your government is very well informed on the situation in Lhasa, and is in a very good position to take a correct and appropriate policy position on Tibet and Dalai Lama,” he said.
