Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham said today that he was puzzled by talk of a crisis within the Spanish giants.
But England captain Beckham denied the club were in crisis. “People talk about a crisis, but we’re just starting the season and have played only one game in the Champions League. I think people are over-reacting,” Beckham told the Daily Telegraph.
“When the fans at Real Madrid see you not playing well they get worried. Because they’ve seen the way we can play, which is incredible – out of this world sometimes – and it’s not been like that for a few games. But you know we’re all right. Because we’ve got the best players in the world.
“As far as I’m concerned there’s no question about the players’ commitment to Real Madrid.”
But Beckham is not convinced new manager Mariano Garcia Remon will be in charge for long after watching Jose Antonio Camacho quit the Bernabeu six days ago to be replaced by his former assistant Remon.
“I don’t know whether I can say the new manager will stay on long,” said Beckham. “At a club like this if a manager comes in and doesn’t do well he is changed. That’s the way the President (Florentino Perez) works here. He is a very powerful man and I respect that.”
