PUNE, Nov 6: A delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today met the University of Pune Vice-Chancellor Dr Arun Nigavekar and presented him a memorandum containing 19 objections against the State Government's controversial decision to grant permission to Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) courses in certain colleges in the city. The ABVP has raised the point that the colleges under controversy have sought the university's permission to start BCS colleges whereas there is no provision of allowing a BCS course as an isolated course in a college. ``For this, the college has to be a complete science college offering degrees in science subjects,'' the ABVP has argued.Saying that there are a substantial number of colleges running BCS course in the city, the ABVP has sought an explaination behind the State's motive of excercising its special power under Maharashtra Universities Act 1994 for granting permission to the BCS courses. It may be noted that ABVP activists had mobbed the State Higher and Technical Education Minister Datta Rane last week demanding cancellation of permission for BCS courses in certain colleges run by influential politicians.Subsequently, the Minster formed a one-member committee headed by director of higher education Dr K P Sonawane to look into the discrepancies, if any, in granting the permission. The committee is due to submit its report in next two days.
