As talks of a world Test championship gain momentum, the first indication from the Indian cricket board is that they would like it to be run over a six-year period rather than a proposed four-year cycle. The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) working committee was given a presentation earlier this week by a Boston-based consultancy firm, which had made a similar presentation to Cricket Australia recently. The proposed start of the championship is after the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Future Tours Programme is completed in 2012.“The BCCI is looking at it. We will scrutinise all aspects of it. A four-year cycle has been suggested, but we would like to have a six-year cycle. At this stage, I can’t say more,” BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told The Indian Express.“Mr Rohan Sachdev of the consultancy firm made the presentation. He suggested modalities for the championship. The firm will make presentations to the cricket boards of other countries as well. We have to take a collective decision,” said BCCI vice-president Shashank Manohar.
