The days of pop-up ads, five-ball overs and poor video quality may end soon as the BCCI moves fast to take control of TV production. It will set up its own production company to produce High Definition Feed (HDF) for the telecast of cricket matches in the country, vice-president Lalit Modi said here today.

The tender submitting process has already started and is waiting clearance by the Working Committee, which is to meet in New Delhi on January 23.

‘‘We will be producing HDF, which is currently available only abroad’’, said Modi. ‘‘We will have all the value additions like pre- and post-match programmes and multi-language feeds. All TV channels carrying our telecast will have to display the BCCI logo.”

Significantly, the BCCI will control the selection of the commentary panel, the quality of coverage and even advertisement volume.

This time around, the board was not restricting itself to selling television rights only and will be spanning the whole spectrum like AM, FM and satellite radio, mobile telephony, internet and DTH bidders. The rights will be offered to international and local bidders, with the highest bidder winning the contract. ‘‘We are first trying our hand in having total control over the production aspects’’, said former board president IS Bindra.
