Top German club Bayern Munich has offered help to West Bengal in setting up a football academy.

“An e-mail from the club offered technical assistance to open a football academy after the visit of Industry Minister Nirupam Sen to Germany,” an official from Peerless said in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Bayern Munich will not have any financial involvement, but offer technical and training support including sponsoring five players to Germany for a two-week programme.

Officials of the club are likely to arrive in Kolkata in the next 10 days to preview a site for the academy at Burdwan.

Bayern will play a friendly match against Mohun Bagan at Salt Lake stadium on May 27.
