The UP Police today arrested 163 people in order to ease the tension in Bareilly town following the death of one of the four persons who were injured when violence broke out during a Moharram procession in bareilly on March 7.
Principal Secretary (Home) Pradip Kumar said though there were no fresh reports of violence, tension was still palpable in the town. He said administrative and police officials had been told to meet leaders of the two communities to seek their cooperation in maintaining peace. Violence broke out during the Moharram procession on March 7 when members of two communities pelted stones at each other and later fired bullets, injuring four persons.
