US conservative baptist minister Jerry Falwell has apologised for his blasphemous remarks against Prophet Mohammed, which have caused uproars throughout the world.

‘‘I sincerely apologise that certain statements of mine made during an interview for the September 30 edition of CBS’s ‘‘60 minutes’’ were hurtful to the feelings of many Muslims,’’ said in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The apology followed an angry outcry – and rioting – that Falwell’s remarks caused in some parts of the world.

British foreign secretary Jack Straw said Falwell’s comments were ‘‘outrageous and insulting.’’
