Amid high drama, popular Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna was arrested today for his alleged involvement in a shoot-out. Son of former CM late N.T. Rama Rao, Balakrishna was arrested from a hospital and re-admitted there after being produced before a judge.
Police have registered an attempt to murder case against Balakrishna for shooting at film producer B. Suresh and his friend Satyanarayana Chowdhary on Thursday. The actor was taken into custody early on Sunday, police commissioner R.P. Singh said.
Balakrishna got himself admitted to Care Hospital immediately after the incident, complaining of a hand injury. He was taken into custody at about 3.30 am and whisked through the rear door of the hospital.
Later, he was produced before the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate, who ordered that police produce him again tomorrow.
The judge ordered police to admit Balakrishna in another hospital but later accepted the actor’s plea to be readmitted to the same hospital. Balakrishna is likely to file a bail petition, sources close to him said.
Meanwhile, police said a showcause notice would be issued to Balakrishna’s wife for not protecting her licensed weapon, which was used in the shoot-out.
Police are also contemplating issuing a notice to Care Hospital for not informing them after Balakrishna got admitted to the hospital, as it was a medico-legal case, they added.
Commissioner Singh said police was yet to examine the actor’s three servants who were present when the incident took place in the actor’s residence. He said the actor admitted before the police last night that he opened fire following an argument with Suresh on celebrating 100 days of his recent hit Lakshmi Narasimha.
However, the actor could not remember how many shots he had fired.
