Vijayawada, Oct 29: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) entered into contract with Prasar Bharati early this month for telecasting domestic circuit, including National championships in all age groups, according to BAI sources.

However, tournaments conducted by International Badminton Federation (IBF) such as World championship, Thomas and Uber Cup, Asian championships, international Grand Prix circuit and Olympic Games are outside the preview of the contract.

BAI will provide a list of tournaments with dates, indicating international and National status to Doordarshan for the purpose of co-ordinating and organising live telecast.

It is agreed that finals of all National and international events would be telecast live on any of the available channels of Doordarshan, preferably on DD sports channel, subject to technical feasibility and programme exigencies in some cases.

Important regional events could also be considered for live telecast depending upon the availability of time slots, programme exigencies and technical feasibility.

The highlights of such regional events, if not telecast live, will be telecast as recorded on available DD channel in deserving cases.

Doordarshan will pay to Badminton Association of India (BAI) Rs 8 lakh per year in two equal installments as TV rights fee.

The revenue generated by in-stadia advertisements will remain with the BAI and similarly, the revenue generated by telecast of commercials during telecast on DD will remain with DD. The BAI will not have to pay any production charges to DD.

The agreement will be in force for a period of five years subject to review by mutual consent after three years.
