Reeling under the adverse publicity generated by frequent raids of Vigilance Bureau sleuths on the Badals’ family properties, the Akali Dal chief’s family today sought to pre-empt such propaganda by conducting media to the nooks and corners of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s 256, Sector 9 house here.
The VB sleuths, however, did not visit the house today for videography as was being expected by Badal’s family.
Meanwhile, Badal’s nephew Narottam Singh Dhillon was charged with having links with ISI, militants in Pakistan and Kashmir and drug mafia.
Dhillon’s alleged links with ISI, militants and drug mafia came to light during interrogation of two drug smugglers arrested by Amritsar police four days ago, Superintendent of Police, Muktsar, Surinder Pal Singh said yesterday. The duo was arrested while carrying 10 kg opium.
One of them named Dhillon as their financier, Singh said, adding the smugglers had links with J-K and Pakistan-based militants through the ISI.
On the other hand, Sukhbir himself called scribes from Delhi to say that VB was giving out bloated figures about expenditure incurred upon the house and ‘‘the Makrana marble is Italian to the Vigilance people’’. He said the VB was expected to swoop down on his Delhi home too.
He claimed that Sanjit Sinha, Principal Secretary to CM, ‘‘was indicted for serious corrupt practices in the appointment of naib tehsildars. The inquiry was conducted by a Financial Commissioner. (Reports about VB chief) A.P. Pande’s (alleged) land grabbing activities had appeared prominently in the media.’’
Amarinder today met Governor O.P. Verma for nearly an hour, triggering off speculations about the meeting’s purpose. Raj Bhawan sources said the appointment was sought by Amarinder and no one was present during the meeting.
