Badal seeks compensation for kin of those killed during Prez rule

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today sought a comprehensive package of Rs 14.61 crore for the next of kin of the 788 persons killed during President’s rule in the state.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today sought a comprehensive package of Rs 14.61 crore for the next of kin of the 788 persons killed during President’s rule in the state.

Badal raised the issue when he called on Union Home Minister Shivraj V. Patil in his office in New Delhi.

Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Harcharan Bains said Badal also asked the Home Minister to grant Rs 116 crore for setting up Mega City Policing facility in Ludhiana and Amritsar.

One of the major issues raised by Badal pertained to police verification of passengers travelling by bus to Lahore. Badal also demanded the release of Rs 103 crore as a one-time grant for the improvement of jail infrastructure in the state.

He also sought release of Rs 140 crore for Maharaja Ranjit Singh Police University and Rs 92.86 crore for the provision of sewerage and drinking water facility in 11 towns on the border, under the BADP scheme. The Chief Minister also urged Patil to immediately revise the existing norms of calamity relief fund to enhance the assistance for damaged crop from Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000 per hectare.
