CHANDIGARH, June 2: Punjab Youth Congress vice-president Parminder Mehta has alleged that the Punjab Government has lost its pro-people plank by abandoning the policies, which it had promised to the people, to come to power last year.
In a statement here, Mehta said the Badal Government had taken off with holding “public darbars,” where politicians, bureaucrats and police officials were brought face-to-face with the public, listen to their grievances and problems and try to redress them on the spot.
The Youth Congress leader deplored that while those “darbars” had been forgotten now, the government functionaries, particularly civil and police officials, remained elusive. He criticised the officials for neglecting the people by using every opportunity to please the powers-that-be, which he alleged, had been witnessed in the current two bye-elections in the state.
The Punjab Youth Congress president also condemned the pick-and-choose policy adopted by the Police Department in rationalising the security cover provided to the leaders and those facing terrorist threats.
