Mumbai, October 21: Third seed Chetan Baboor kept India’s challenge alive in the 15th Asian Cup Table Tennis tournament when he recovered after losing the opening game to get past Yang Shun Hsiang of Chinese Taipei in four games in their quarter-final clash here at the Andheri Sports Complex on Saturday.

Baboor, the India No 1 who is ranked 84th in the World, packed too many guns for the unseeded Taipei player’s comfort and sailed into the last four with a convincing 17-21, 21-12, 21-10, 21-16 verdict over Yang who was runner-up in Group D.

The Sweden-based former National champion, who topped Group C with an all-win record on his way into the last eight, will meet Chan Tian Yuan of China in the semi-finals.

Yuan, the unseeded surprise packet who topped Group B which included second seed Leung Chu Yan of Hong Kong, had no difficulty in whipping Group A runner-up Yoon Jae Young of South Korea 21-14, 21-16, 21-13 in another men’s quarter-final.

There was a major upset in another quarter-final when top-seeded Cheung Yuk of Hong Kong, who topped Group A, crashed out when he was beaten 21-15, 22-20, 14-21, 21-16 by unfancied Hao Shuai, the Group C runner-up behind Baboor.
